In 2019, at the age of 23, ludovic hadjeras traveled for the first time to Algeria, the homeland of his father and grandparents, who left it in 1962 bearing the label of “harkis” — both here and there. At the same time, he embarked on a journey to meet a pack of wolves in the Hautes-Alpes, where his other grandmother lives. From this exploration on both sides of the Mediterranean, he wrote the first version of his book The Wolf and the Fig Tree. Today, after six years of searching for his identity, Ludovic revisits his writings. Guided by two hybrid figures — the werewolf and the métis — he stages their encounter, pursues them, and even assumes their forms.
ludovic hadjeras is a visual artist whose work explores, among other things, quasi-identity questions related to the relationships between humans and non-humans. Central to his practice is a focused attention on the spaces occupied by other animals, seeking contact and, at times, collaboration. Living between Amsterdam and Algiers, his movements and the encounters they foster are reflected in his practice through installations, sculptures, videos, and writings.
