Not recommended for children under 16, presence of images of surgery, blood and needles.
It is under the aegis of Pamela Anderson that Nina Gazaniol Vérité embarks on a documentary adventure, in Marseille, alongside several women who have undergone cosmetic surgery. Who are they? What do the procedures they undergo look like? How do they live after these operations? Why do they have recourse to cosmetic surgery? Is it a submission? Is it a form of freedom? Do they have to provide an explanation for this choice? Are they “fake women” or “real women”? This film is the sharing of a deconstruction, of the time spent in the lives of several women, of incursions into the operating room of a young cosmetic surgeon, of viewings of the film Camping Cosmos and of Kathy Acker’s training videos and, finally, of a visit to the grave of Lolo Ferrari. It is perhaps also a story of lies and violence, of blood and beauty, of power and self-affirmation.
Since 2023, Nina Gazaniol Vérité has been accompanied and supported by Parallèle in production and distribution.
A discussion with the artist will take place after the screenings of 4.02 and 5.02.
Biography
Based in Marseille, Nina Gazaniol Vérité is a graduate in Performing Arts and Journalism. She studied the diversion of television through artistic performance in the thesis “Don’t hate the Media, Be the media”, interned at ARTE and approached experimental cinema while getting involved in multiple transdisciplinary projects. In 2013, she joined the Higher Education for Creation in Public Space (FAI AR / Marseille) where she developed her interest in architecture, territories, notions of spaces and inhabitants. Since 2015, she has imagined different projects while cultivating a valuable relationship with research and writing. She regularly collaborates with different groups and artists while continuing her own work, at the crossroads of video arts and those of space, performance and documentary, questioning a plastic writing anchored in reality. And vice versa.
